Our Vineyards

Melis Estate(D.O.Q. Priorat)

The MELIS vineyard, of 7,5 Ha, is located within a 45 Ha. estate in Torroja del Priorat, “The Solana”.  As its name indicates, it is a “sun exposed land” with a south-west orientation. It is located on a mountain slope of 30% between 250 and 400 meters of altitude. The estate is limited in the bottom by the Cortiella river valley that forms a ventilated passage for the “garbinada”, a humid and refreshing wind  coming from the sea in the summer months.

The subsoil is 100% “licorella” slate rock , and it is covered  with a thin layer of “licorella” sheets mixed with 20% clay. The main vineyard was planted in the year 2000 on 10 km of terraces formed for this purpose.  The varieties are: black Grenache, predominant in our wines, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Bessons State (D.O.Q. Priorat)

The 4.5 Ha vineyard is located on a 45 ha estate, in TORROJA DEL PRIORAT. It has an altitude of 350 meters and a northwest orientation. It is composed of stone “saldó” (aggregate slate), metamorphic rock of fine texture formed 350 million years ago.

The vineyard was planted on soft slopes of 20% in 2004 and 2008 with American rootstock and grafted with clones of Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties, from the MELIS vineyard.

The ventilation, the northwest orientation and the texture of its soil, rather dry, provide grapes of great late maturity and a remarkable acidity.

The Mediterranean climate tends to be continental, with very low rainfalls during the growing seasons. The soil is poor, dried, compact, and formed with clay and limestone.

The SAURI wines are intense purple. On the nose, intense, warm, spiced and deeply fruity.  In the mouth, very silky and matured tannins with a well balanced acidity, combined with plumbs and red fruits.

La Boella Estate

Its 5 Ha vineyard is located on the estate of La Boella, in the municipality of La Canonja, 5 km from Tarragona city and the Mediterranean sea. The vineyard was planted in 2006 on a marine floor formed by fragments of shells of bivalve molluscs and gastropods which, together with calcareous cement, contribute with mineral and earthy notes and a fresh acidity. This peculiarity influences decisively in the mineral contribution of the “terroir” by the seabed accumulated during millions of years.

Planted varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Monastrell.

The climate is typically Mediterranean, sunny most of the year, with short winters and long summers. The spring rains and the sea breeze contributes for a continuous grape ripening, and an intense, complex and fresh fruit in the wine, without an excessive alcoholic degree.

The resulting wines presents on the nose slight notes of tobacco and smoked wood, through the succession in time, notes of dry raisins, blackberry liqueur and candied plum. In the mouth, the tannin is velvety and friendly, with warm notes of cinnamon and understory which, harmonized with a fresh acidity, give way to mineral and earthy notes.
