Melis Priorat and Elix Priorat, both from Cellars Melis in Spain, are the realization of a twenty-year dream for Victor Gallegos, Javier Lopez, and Russell Weis. The three best friends brought their extensive winemaking and vineyard knowledge to Melis, first purchasing and restoring a prime estate vineyard at the very heart of the acclaimed Priorat DOQ. In addition to the Melis vineyard's priceless old vines, the partners planted select new clones of Garnacha, Cariñena, Syrah, and several rows of Cabernet Sauvignon. Four years later, they hand-harvested the first vintage of their Melis and Elix wines. Today, they continue to focus on small but crucial vineyard and winemaking details, seeking to honor and reflect the wild, earthy richness of Priorat's traditional varietals and terroir, while achieving high-scoring wines of world-class balance and elegance.
